Yesterday, while listening to a lecture by Jim Rohn, entrepreneur, author, and motivational speaker, one of his points stuck out for me as a simple life changing thought that I already knew but needed to be reminded of:
If you want change, YOU must change… When you change, everything will change for you; when you get better, everything will get better for you.
Though debatable whether it was Gandhi’s direct quote, “be the change you wish to see in the world,” came to mind, except I envisioned it to read… “Be the change you wish to see in YOUR world and inevitably you will see the change you wish to see in THE world.”
As I find myself in a time of reflection, evaluation, personal growth, and preparation for the next season of life, Rohn’s statement resonated with me in a very powerful way. Too often, it is easy to either focus on the things that hinder(ed) you from meeting a goal, or to overlook (or deny) the things that are within your power to change your outcome/life.
This lecture encouraged me to commit to the personal challenge of changing the areas in me that must change in order for me to see life change! Your change may be different than mine, but the first step is to be honest with yourself about the factors and the excuses you allow/make that stifle and hinder positive change in your life. Then, focus on making sure you work harder on yourself than anything or anyone else.
